The San Luciano Shipwreck

February 1, 2018March 20, 2018Terry SovilLeave a Comment on The San Luciano Shipwreck

By Terry Sovil from the February 2018 Edition The San Luciano has always puzzled me. I did some basic re-search but didn’t find a lot of information on the “San Luciano”. It was there, I didn’t find it, partly because she started out as the “Argyll”. I also accepted what I was told, that she went […]

Honey!

January 1, 2018March 15, 2018Terry SovilLeave a Comment on Honey!

By Terry Sovil from the January 2018 Edition Honey is one thing that can do anything and is proudly made by bees. It is a one-ingredient recipe from Mother Nature. Our honey in the state of Colima is very good! Dr. Ron Fessenden, M.D. says the average American eats 150 pounds (68 kg) of sugar […]

Interesting Local Creatures Part 2

December 1, 2017December 7, 2017Terry SovilLeave a Comment on Interesting Local Creatures Part 2

By Terry Sovil from the December 2017 Edition In Part 1, we talked about Christmas Tree Worms, Tube Blennies, Sea Cucumbers and Tiger Snake Eels. Those are critters I look for and enjoy watching on every dive. Manzanillo has a very extensive and diverse sea life. I have my favorites and love to visit with […]

Interesting Local Creatures

November 1, 2017December 8, 2017Terry SovilLeave a Comment on Interesting Local Creatures

By Terry Sovil from the November 2017 Edition Manzanillo has some incredibly interesting, and different, creatures that are all around us. As a diver, I see all kinds of in-credible things regularly. I don’t take them for granted. When I’m diving, everything around me is my friend because most everything is alive! Here are 4 examples: […]

Our Water Footprints

October 1, 2017December 8, 2017Terry SovilLeave a Comment on Our Water Footprints

By Terry Sovil from the October 2017 Edition There is a great deal of concern, discussion and, in some countries, denial on protecting our resources. One of our most crucial resources is water. If our oceans die, we will too. We all share a common resource so we need to work together! What can regular citizens, […]

Waves

September 1, 2017December 9, 2017Terry SovilLeave a Comment on Waves

By Terry Sovil from the September 2017 Edition We’ve had a lot of big waves this summer. It’s made diving difficult! I started to wonder where they came from. Could it be all of the storms and hurricanes? At one point we had 5 “disturbances” lined up like a parade. None came close to shore. I […]

Bioluminescence

August 1, 2017December 9, 2017Terry SovilLeave a Comment on Bioluminescence

By Terry Sovil from the August 2017 Edition What? Bioluminesence. I get confused thinking about it and think about “fluorescence” or “phosphorescence” or “luminous”. Bioluminescence is the production, and emission of, light by a living organism. While I think of it mostly in terms of marine life, there are terrestrial invertebrates that can create light. Think […]

The Green Flash

July 1, 2017December 9, 2017Terry SovilLeave a Comment on The Green Flash

By Terry Sovil from the July 2017 Edition The Green Flash should not be confused with the DC Comics “Flash” and/or mixed with the TV show “The Green Hornet”. Manzanillo has a reputation for deep-sea fishing and a certain quality of sunsets that can display The Green Flash. Being on the same latitude as Hawaii […]

Lightening Storms, Electricity and Appliances

June 1, 2017December 9, 2017Terry SovilLeave a Comment on Lightening Storms, Electricity and Appliances

By Terry Sovil from the June 2017 Edition Living in a beautiful spot like Manzanillo is fantastic. The weather here can vary but it is generally sunny and nice. Or HOT and HUMID. In the past, we talked about expensive personal items like computers, cameras, tablets etc. This time we want to focus on our […]

My Ocean Loves My Stuff

May 1, 2017February 18, 2021Terry SovilLeave a Comment on My Ocean Loves My Stuff

By Terry Sovil from the May 2017 Edition Those beautiful beaches in Manzanillo can have a few draw- backs. We’re going to focus on trying to protect your stuff  from the oxidation and rust that our ocean seems to share. These are common worries for those fortunate enough to live right on the beach. “I […]
